I'm moving into a townhome in a few days. In order to figure out how to layout my living room, I decided to put my 3D skills to good use using SketchUp...
  • The hallway with the male figure leads to the stairs, front door and bathroom.
  • The other hallway leads into the kitchen (which connects to the 1st hallway by a breakfast nook).
  • There's a window to the left of the fireplace and storm doors leading out onto a patio.

I'm trying to decide on how I want to layout the new place I'm moving into on Monday. I've worked thru about a half-dozen different setups and these are the two that I think hold the most promise.

The first layout leaves more floor-space but I end up facing towards a wall and have my back to the front door which would bug the crap out of me. It also means that whatever I'm doing on my computer is there for the world to see (not good if I'm hosting D&D) and I wouldn't be able to see the fire or TV if I wanted to. There would also be nowhere to place my left-rear surround speaker.

The other layout (photos 4-6) takes up more floor-space but I can see the whole apartment from where I'd be sitting at my computer (photos 7-10). The only down-side would be that the computer desk might tend to dominate the room. (Though if I was hosting D&D at my place, it would be handy to have that elbow section between the players and I so that I could have my books and spread out before me.) It would also mean that I can use all the speakers in my computer's 5.1 surround system.

Here's an orthographic view so that perspective doesn't mess with the measurements. On the left-side is a 10-foot ruler. This is for Dad so that he can cut-out the pieces and see if he can figure out a better arrangement.

Here's a layout my Dad came up with. I think this works a lot better. Smiley
